Version 3 of The GIS Jobs Clearinghouse has been streamlined to provide faster and more intuitive access to GIS jobs information as well as new social networking features.
The new interface includes a 'Link' feature that displays a custom URL for the current map view. As you zoom in/out and pan around, you can click on the Link button to get a custom URL that will enable you to bookmark and return to the same location (and zoom level) at a later time. Thus if you are only interested in a specific location (or locations), you can bookmark the URL and access content more easily.
By default the map displays the 150 (or less) most recent entries on the GIS Jobs Clearinghouse. If you are interested in displaying more (300 records max) or less records, you can do so by using the "Link" feature and adding a parameter to the URL named "records" with the total number of records you wish to see (e.g., to display the 50 most recent records: http://www.cartosoft.com/lab/gjc/index.php?lat=43&lng=-121&zoom=11&records=50). By default, if the custom URL does not include the lat, lng, and zoom parameters, the map will display the entire world, centered at 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude.
Google's Friend Connect is a new social networking tool that enables visitors to use existing social network accounts to join communities specific to certain web sites. That means that you can use your Google, Plaxo, Blogger, and various other accounts to join The GIS Jobs Clearinghouse Map community. You can add comments, add friends, and publish your activity to your preferred social network. We have added this on an experimental basis, so if you like it or don't like it, please contact us with your feedback so we will know whether to keep it or to remove it after the trial period.
Feedback on ways to improve this mashup is always welcome.
